THE PALMIRA ARCH IN THE CENTER OF FLORENCE # G7Culture
Next days the arch of triumph will return to Italy, close to the place where it has resumed life and form (Carrara) after its destruction: it will be exhibited in Florence, exactly in Piazza della Signoria, in front of Palazzo Vecchio from 27 March to 27 April in the occasion of the G7 of Culture to be held on March 30-31, 2017.
Palmira, like the historic center of Florence, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and its destroyed arch has become the symbol of rebirth, reconstruction and conservation of the works belonging to the heritage of humanity and the history of civilization which otherwise would be lost and forgotten.
Within this event the City of Florence and MUS.E propose to the city a series of events dedicated to the issues of enhancement and protection of art. Among the initiatives, besides the installation of the monumental reproduction of the Arch of Palmira, the exhibition of the “Chimera d’Arezzo” at Palazzo Vecchio and a bronze bust, by Bandinelli, depicting Cosimo I, on loan from the Uffizi Galleries.
