Attualmente vive e lavora a Londra.
La prima visita a Carrara di Antony Gormley è stata nel 1979: stupefatto dalla maestosità e dalla bellezza dei monti, dai tagli, dalle fenditure, e da come le geometrie assolute si interfacciassero al caos delle montagne.
Il lavoro intitolato 2×2, realizzato per la XIV Biennale Internazionale di Scultura di Carrara svoltasi nel 2010, mette in evidenza l’evoluzione dell’arte al tempo della riproduzione meccanica, trasformando ossa, pelle e muscoli in una lavorazione dal rigore geometrico non dissimile dalla struttura del marmo stesso.
